back after a long and tiring holiday season! So lets get back into the swing of things! Todays post topic is "how to prepare an equine first aid kit & why". Let start with why. Many unplanned situations can occur when your at or away from you horses home. Its very necessary to carry an emergency kit everywhere you go with the possibility of an unplanned emergency. Now that you know why, let talk about how, starting with what you will need. Some of these options are optional, but the majority are necessary. Here are the things I keep in my emergency kit:
Cottom wrap
vet wrap
scissors
liniment cooling gel
wonder dust
Poroxide
EqYss mud fever treatment
animal cents paste
syringes
sterile needle syringe attachment &
electrolytes
You can tell from my list i appreciate having certain ointments and treatments on hand. You may prefer to not purchase certain of these items, which is understandable, and I didn't either until experiencing a few "emergencies" and figured it wouldn't hurt to have something on hand! Here is a list of typical first aid items:
Cottom wrap
vet wrap
pine tar
essential oils
sterile syringes & needle attachments
Poroxide
equine thermometer &
hoof pick
There are also available pre-made equine first aid kits that you might find simpler, though more expensive. You can find them here...Amazon.com : Curicyn Equine Triage Kit - 36 piece Equine First Aid Kit For Horses - Contains Equine Emergency Essentials including Hoof Kit - Horse First Aid Kits - Horse Emergency Necessities : Pet Supplies
