One Paint Mare

My Horse Story

I've been a horse lover for as long as I can remember! As a little kid, I always wanted a pony of my own. I bought cowboy hats and grooming supplies at only 8 years old in my attempt to prepare for my future dream pony! To everyone else, my desire to ride horses and have my own was just like any other little girl, everyone wants a pony at some point in their life, right!? For me, this was not just a dream, it was a plan. After i started taking lessons in 2019, I learned there was a lot more to owning a horse than I had originally thought. The thought of vet bills and farrier fees overwhelmed my nine year old brain and I began to doubt that my "plan" would ever work out. Though I struggled with anxiety and fear of horses for a long time, i stuck with it and continued my barrel racing lessons. In 2022, i made the decision to drop out of lessons, and begin saving for my own horse. At 12 years old i worked dozens of small farm jobs, cleaning jobs, garden jobs and many more in order to reach my goal. Scrolling for weeks at hundreds of different horses, i came across a TW paint mare. 13 year old me was NOT impressed with the looks of this middle aged trail horse. But I was desperate.

We made the two hour drive to meet this underwhelming pony, and boy was i in shock the moment i saw her! Hands shaking with excitement, i reached out to let her grasp my scent. Ears perked, she calmy examined my smell. I knew for sure, she was the one. We picked Montana up only two days later and discovered when she arrived home, she had many gaps in her training. We spent hours working with her every day, in hopes to get her to the level of training i would need in order to make her my dream barrel racing horse. Though Montana Eagle has come very far in the last year of owning her, she still has a long ways to go, but I intend to stick with it to fully fulfill her purpose in life.
